Strawberry Fresca

The thing about living in the Bay area is, when it's cold in most of the rest of the country, it's (relatively speaking) warm here. And, when my East coast friends are talking about hot sticky weather in August, it's still the same temperature it was here that it was when they were talking about how cold they were. But when my other-coasters are rejoicing about the first signs of Spring and the amazingness of those first gorgeous warm days after a long winter, I get jealous. Especially when it's been raining for what seems like weeks on end here.

Enter this lovely refreshing drink, and we can all pretend it's the first day of Spring! No matter what the weather looks like outside...

The "It's Spring No Matter What the Weather Is" Strawberry Fresca
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 2 Tbsp fresh mint
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • Diet Sprite or tonic
  • Optional: white wine, rum, or vodka...because hey, not only is it spring somewhere, it's also 5 o'clock somewhere ;-)
Steps:
  1. Muddle the mint and strawberries until crushed
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients, mixing the sugar in

I'm not usually one for a "white wine spritzer" but this does actually make for a tasty one if you mix in some white wine. Then again, it can go well with rum or vodka too, or of course on it's own as a refreshing bevie.

And thank goodness, the sun actually came out here today! And I seem to be FINALLY kicking my never-ending cold. I do miss those first Spring days in Boston though... there's just something about the fact that everyone seems to be outside, completely psyched about and totally appreciative of the weather. I feel like good weather is something that should always be celebrated and appreciated- it can just put you in the best mood and set the tone for your day - so if you're enjoying some beautiful weather today, soak it in! It's the little things ;-)

  1. This looks so refreshing - loving the simplicity of it, I can picture myself sitting in the backyard garden with one of these in hand.

New England does have an undeniable energy come spring - everyone starts to come out of the woodwork once even the slightest sign of warm weather comes through :)
